Basic Korean words : 뻔하다, 솔직하다, 넘다, 달라다, 검사

 

406. 뻔하다 [bbeon-ha-da] – to be obvious, evident / almost, nearly

– 뻔하다 [bbeon-ha-da] is used when something is ‘obvious’ or ‘evident’. It can also means “almost” or “nearly”.

Example sentences:

그 일은 뻔한데 왜 하나요? It’s obvious, so why are you doing it?
죽을 뻔했어요. I almost died.

 

407. 솔직하다 [sol-jik-ha-da] – to be honest, sincere

– 솔직하다 [sol-jik-ha-da] means to be “honest” and “sincere” in expressing yourself.

Example sentences:

솔직한 의견을 말해주세요. Please give your honest opinion.

 

408. 넘다 [neom-tta] – to cross, to pass

넘다 [neom-tta] means “to cross” or “to pass” something, often a line or boundary.

Example sentences:

선을 넘지 마세요. Don’t cross the line.

 

409. 달라다 [dal-ra-da] – to ask, to request

– (~아/어) 달라다 [dal-ra-da] is used when you are “asking” or “requesting” something from someone, and 도와 달라다 [do-wa dal-ra-da] is used to ask for help.

Example sentences:

제 딸은 왜 계속 밥을 달라고 하죠? Why is my daughter always asking for food?

 

410. 검사 [geom-sa] – investigation, inspection / prosecutor

– 검사 [geom-sa] can mean “examination” or “inspection”. It can also mean “prosecutor” in a legal context.

Example sentences:

검사 결과가 나왔어요. The test results came out.
그 검사는 법정에서 일하고 있어요. That prosecutor works in the courtroom.
